About Us
History & Mandate
Since 1987, the CSSPE/SCEEA has been Canada's leading forum for practical ethics scholarship — bringing together diverse voices to address the moral challenges of our era.
Our Story
Formed in 1987, Growing Ever Since
The Canadian Society for the Study of Practical Ethics (CSSPE) / Société canadienne pour l'étude de l'éthique appliquée (SCEEA) was formed in 1987 to create a home for applied ethics scholarship in Canada.
Each year, the Society mounts its annual conference at a different Canadian university in conjunction with the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences — Canada's largest academic gathering.
The CSSPE/SCEEA attracts members from a wide variety of fields and occupations, including academia, the business community, the professions, and the civil service. This diversity of background and interest is one of the Society's greatest strengths.
Over the decades, the Society has mounted many interdisciplinary conferences in partnership with a wide range of scholarly and professional organizations across Canada and internationally.
